api self priming centrifugal pump
does api support self priming centrifugal pumps or not.
We sent an inquiry to some pump manufacturer asked them to supply a self priming centrifugal pump as per API code.
some manufacturers deny and someone quote a simple pump with priming vessel. can we say that a priming vessel added to an ordinary type of pump is same as self priming pump or there are some differences.
The pump is for waste water delivery from a sump in a chemical plant. There is no designation in API 610 to cover self-primers. Again, the PUMP does not need to comply with API 610 due to anything in the attached spec; it is only the motor and it's enclosure that would have to comply with your spec.
There are hundreds of non-API pumps in every refinery; even in hazardous locations. Although in the past few years it has become fairly bloated with some questionable requirements, the true intent of API 610 is really to make certain that pump can handle and contain it's PUMPED FLUID safely at Conditions of Service (therefore no cast iron, nozzle stiffness requirements, mech seals in lieu of packing, etc.). This is not a concern for water.Other pumps
