EMD Water Pump Identification
Irecall a reference made to the rotation of EMD Marine Engines and the relationship to fresh water pumps on the engine. I recall seeing, in a parts book I believe, a drawing referring to the "Construction" of the pump being either a right hand or left hand. They drawing as I recall had right hand engines with either a right hand "constructed" pump or a left hand "constructed" pump. The same was true for the left hand engines. Can someone either verify this or correct me? Can anyone refer a site where I might get a copy of the page with this drawing?
I can say that I remember that also. There was a manual on line but I cant find it now.I will have the manual in my pile of stuff which I will look thru later.I will look for the online manual later also and if I find it I will send you the link.Could have been on the manual aboard the John Spence also. But I do remember that fact so I do agree with you
Thank you for the reply. If I recall correctly the drawing was in a parts book near the front cover. I worked for Offshore Logistics and others and have 21 years experience with EMD's and I have now been awayfrom them for 6 years. A friend and I were discussing this and it led to "I'm right" "No, I'm right". So here I am. Thanks and what ever you run across I would appreciate hearing from you.
EMD engines are set up to rotate one direction or the other, the designation being a "Right Hand" or "Left Hand" Engine. The difference in the water pumps is Sweage pumps &Sludge pumps the configuration of the impeller based on the direction of the Accessory Drive Gears. In other words, and LH engine uses a LH Pump assembly (EMD Part Number 8347607) and a RH Engine uses a RH Pump (EMD Part Number 8364237) Keep in mind that both Lube Oil Pumps on an EMD are interchangeable between and RH and LH Engine
